About IPv6 Addresses

  • IPv6 addresses are 128 bits long
  • They are written as eight groups of four hexadecimal digits
  • Each group represents 16 bits
  • Groups are separated by colons (:)
  • Leading zeros in a group can be omitted
  • One or more consecutive groups of zeros can be replaced with a double colon (::)
